Market to service members and veterans. The 2.6 million Active Duty and Reserve members of the military, as well as millions of veterans, are a lucrative but very elusive market.

Create relationships with military institutions. A company may have a product or service that the Armed Forces can purchase and employ.

Recruit transitioning service members as employees. The military takes people with at least a high school diploma, provides them with technical training, and develops them as leaders. At every level of the human resources hierarchy, the military has something to offer corporate employers.

Implement an education incentive program. A company can create an education program that will positively affect recruitment and retention, create a more capable workforce, and provide tax benefits.

Establish an honors organization in the company. Outstanding employees are difficult to attract and retain, but companies can use the same model that many universities now use—the honors college model—to reward and challenge key personnel.
